DUBUQUE, Iowa--J. Bruce Meriwether, chair of the board of trustees and 
acting president of the University of Dubuque, has announced that Dr. Sally 
Naylor has joined the university as associate professor and chair of the 
education department. In her new capacity, Naylor is charged with creating 
and administering a new, innovative, and fully accredited education 
department at the University of Dubuque. Naylor earned a Ph.D. in 
educational administration from the University of Iowa, and both an M.A. 
and B.S. in education from Ohio State University. 
 
PIKEVILLE, Ky.--Harold "Hal" Smith, vice president for development at 
Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, was recently named the 16th 
president of Pikeville College. Smith succeeds William H. Owens, who is 
retiring from the presidency June 30. Owens has held the position of 
president since 1985. According to Terry L. Dotson, Smith was selected from 
a pool of more than 100 candidates that resulted from a nationwide search. 
"[Smith] will be a good transition to continue Bill Owens' work," Dotson 
said. "His ties to Kentucky and his experience in working in a small 
church-related college environment are invaluable assets."  Smith holds an 
M.B.A. from American University and a  B.A. from Centre College. 
 
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster College has entered into a covenant 
agreement with the congregations of Shenango Presbytery to strengthen and 
affirm the relationship of the college and the church. The presbytery, 
which represents more than 70 congregations in Mercer and Lawrence 
counties, voted unanimously to enter into the agreement during its Nov. 12 
meeting. The formal signing of the covenant took place during a Feb. 25 
meeting at Westminster. Founded in 1872, Westminster College is related to 
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) through the Synod of The Trinity. It is 
one of the leading independent liberal arts colleges in the country. 
Westminister's liberal arts foundation is supported by an integrative 
curriculum featuring state-of-the-art technology and opportunities for 
involvement to prepare students for a diverse world. 
 
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--Dr. Ernest C. McNealy, associate provost and dean of 
undergraduate academic affairs at the State University of New York at Stony 
Brook, has been named president-elect of Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, 
Ala. McNealy, who was selected from a field of four finalists, will assume 
the presidency on July 1. Retiring college president Dr. Cordell Wynn will 
step down after 16 years as president of Stillman. McNealy has a B.S. in 
art education and a minor in chemistry from Alabama State University in 
Montgomery, Ala.; an M.A. in teaching in fine art from Indiana University 
in Bloomington, Ind.; and a doctorate in art education from Ohio State 
University in Columbus. He also has experience in business management and 
education adminstration. A native of Headland, Ala., McNealy and his wife, 
Earnestine, have a son, Ernest II, 9.
