                  Health Awareness Sunday Nears

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Health Awareness Sunday, designed to help congregations 
focus on health-care issues affecting the church and the larger community, 
will be observed April 13. 
 
     Health Awareness Sunday is part of the 1997 Health Care Sabbath, an 
interfaith project created by the Interreligious Health Care Access 
Campaign.  Sponsoring denominations include the Presbyterian Church 
(U.S.A.), the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 
America, the United Church of Christ, the Church of the Brethren and 
numerous others. 
 
     With the theme "Healthy Congregations: Nurturing Within and Without," 
participating congregations have been asked to incorporate health education 
and "wellness" programs into their life as faith communities and to speak 
out concerning health-care needs of all communities, particularly the needs 
of children.
