ELCA NEWS SERVICE - NEWSBRIEF

DIAL BISHOP ANDERSON

Beginning May 1, the Rev. H. George Anderson, presiding bishop of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will provide a
regular recorded message by calling a Chicago telephone number --
773-380-2930. "I look forward to one more way to communicate
with the people of our church and learn of their interests," said
Anderson. The brief messages will be seasonal and devotional and
contain "newsy updates about what's hot" in the church. The
bishop's messages will be changed on the first and fifteen of
every month. In May the bishop will have a message for all
graduates and share news from assemblies Lutheran synods are
holding across the United States and Caribbean this spring. In
June Anderson plans to talk about three ecumenical proposals
before the ELCA and about family time. The ecumenical proposals
are that Lutherans and Episcopalians enter into full communion,
that Lutherans enter into full communion with three Reformed
churches and that Lutherans declare certain 16th century
condemnations of the Roman Catholic Church no longer apply.
Sound recordings of the bishop's message will also be available
on the World Wide Web at http://www.elca.org/ob/Anderson.html.
