Church and city officials
break ground for downtown Cleveland hotel

EDITORS AND NEWS DIRECTORS: A ceremonial ground breaking to
announce the start of construction on the United Church Board
for Homeland Ministries' 141-room hotel is scheduled for
Saturday, Apr. 26, at 11:30 a.m. The site is located across
Huron Road from the Gateway East parking garage, behind the
United Church of Christ's national office building at 700
Prospect Avenue.

Speakers at the event will include UCC President, the Rev.
Paul H. Sherry, United Church Board for Homeland Ministries
Executive Vice-President, the Rev. Thomas E. Dipko, UCBHM
General Secretary Robert P. Noble, and Cleveland Mayor Michael
R. White.

More than 200 ministers and lay leaders from across the United
States and Puerto Rico are in Cleveland for the Homeland
Board's three-day corporate annual meeting. They will be
outfitted with hard hats to commemorate the hotel's planned
construction, to begin in May.

Radisson Hotels recently approved the hotel, to be built near
Jacobs Field and Gund Arena, for a franchise application. The
Albert M. Higley Company of Cleveland is general contractor.
Vern Fuller, president of Marathon Associates, Aurora, Ohio,
will be opening general manager of the hotel. Jefferson B.
Riley of Centerbrook Associates, Essex, Conn., is the
architect.
