LAURINBURG, N.C.--A St. Andrews Presbyterian College student will benefit
from the Ina McNair Avinger Scholarship, beginning in August. The newly
announced scholarship is a gift to the college from the Ina McNair Avinger
Foundation in Laurinburg. The scholarship provides $4,000 each year, for a
total of $16,000 in annual aid over four years. It will be awarded to a new
enrolling student who plans to pursue a field of study and career in some
form of Christian service, and who would otherwise not have the resources
to attend college. It will be awarded each year, providing the student
meets community service and grade requirements and continues to demonstrate
financial need.

PIKEVILLE, Ky.--Final approval has been granted for the Pikeville College
School of Osteopathic Medicine, Kentucky's third medical school and the
only one in eastern Kentucky. The school officially opens its doors
September 8. The Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine began as
the brainchild of Paintsville attorney G. Chad Perry III. He wanted to open
a medical school in the Appalachian area. Because of its already existing
facilities, Pikeville College became the chosen site for the medical
school. After a nearly four-year process, the Bureau of Professional
Education of the American Osteopathic Association approved the school's
provisional accreditation in July.

ALMA, Mich.--The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation's history of
generosity toward Alma College continues with a $2 million grant to the
college's $33 million capital campaign, "Cherished Ever." The grant,
supporting Alma's Science Initiative within the campaign, includes $250,000
for direct scientific equipment purchases and $1,750,000 to help fund the
endowment for future replacement and renewal of science equipment. Among
other recent generous contributions the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow
Foundation has made to Alama was a $3 million gift toward the renovation of
Dow Science Center in the 1980s. That gift was part of the college's
Centennial Fund Campaign.
