    First Moderator Candidate Announced

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--On Sept. 6, Whitewater Valley Presbytery unanimously 
endorsed the Rev. Richard G. Hutchison, pastor of First Presbyterian Church 
in Fort Wayne, Ind., for moderator of the 210th General Assembly (1998). 
The Assembly meets June 13-20 in Charlotte, N.C. 
 
    "Hutch," as he is widely known, has been pastor of the 1,800-member 
Fort Wayne congregation since 1988.  A noted leader in the field of 
Christian education, Hutchison currently serves on the General Assembly 
Council of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and is the Council's 
corresponding member to the board of directors of the Presbyterian Church 
(U.S.A.) Foundation.  He is a four-time commissioner to General Assembly 
and was an active member of Denver Presbytery, serving as its moderator, 
and of the Synod of the Rocky Mountains prior to his move to Indiana. 
 
    Hutchison holds degrees from Juniata College, Princeton Theological 
Seminary and San Francisco Theological Seminary.
