Kirkpatrick Sends Condolences to Mother Teresa's Order

    by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--General Assembly stated clerk the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick
sent the following letter of condolence, dated Sept. 10, to the
Missionaries of Charity, the order founded and headed by Mother Teresa
until her death on Sept. 5:

"I write on behalf of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to extend our
deepest condolences on the death of Mother Teresa. She was a model of the
ministry of Christ to people throughout the world, including those in the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

"The ministry which she initiated and carried out to the least of these
is truly the ministry of Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God for her life
and witness and want to assure you of the love and prayers of people
throughout the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) during this time of loss.

"May the hope of the Resurrection and the wonderful memories of the
life and ministry of Mother Teresa be of special comfort to you in the days
ahead."
