ENGLAND: CHANCELLOR PAYS TRIBUTE TO CHURCHES

(ACNS) Last week the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown,
paid tribute to the Churches' work with and for the unemployed in
Britain. The Chancellor paid a visit to the launch of a study pack and
video on the Churches' report - Unemployment and the Future of Work
which was launched in April (See ACNS....). The Chancellor thanked the
Churches for a hard-hitting report and for their struggle every day of
the week for the poorest communities hit by high unemployment in
Britain. He asked all Church members to join a crusade to tackle
unemployment and to continue to challenge society. He urged the Churches
to help change the climate of opinion that argued that unemployment was
inevitable.
