Browning's book of meditations to benefit Fund for World Relief
(ENS) A Year of Days with the Book of Common Prayer, a new
book of meditations written by Presiding Bishop Edmond Browning, was
released on November 10 by the Ballantine Publishing Group, a division
of Random House, Inc. Browning has directed that all of his proceeds
from the sale of the book be given to the relief and development
ministries of the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief. The book
includes 366 meditations focused on prayers and scripture found in the
Book of Common Prayer. Browning has poured the experience, wisdom,
and love of a lifetime into these meditations. The book is available in
bookstores or can be ordered from Ballantine by calling (800) 793-2665.

Religion and Ethics program airs on PBS
(NYT) Religion and Ethics Newsweekly recently began airing on
more than 20 Public Broadcasting System (PBS) stations, with more PBS
stations scheduled to come on board soon. Produced by WNET, Channel
13 in New York, the half-hour program is modeled on another WNET
success, the Macneil/Lehrer NewsHour. Each edition of the program
begins with a summary of the week's developments in religion and ethics
followed by more detailed explorations, in filmed segments and
roundtable discussions, of two or three major reports. A recent program
featured an exploration of the appeal to Americans of Eastern Orthodox
Christianity in conjunction with coverage of the arrival in the United
States of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos of Constantinople, and an
examination of campaign financing with Nancy Sherman, a professor of
ethics, and David Broder, a political columnist.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity resources available
(ENS) The Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute, a
ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement-Graymoor, has
announced the availability of resource materials for observing the 1998
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Celebrated each year from January
18-25, the Week of Prayer was introduced in 1908 by the Rev. Paul
Wattson, founder of the Franciscan Friars of Atonement-Graymoor, to
promote Christian unity throughout the world. The theme for this year's
Week of Prayer is "Be led by the Spirit in Hope" (Romans 8:14-27); the
artwork is "Descent of the Holy Spirit," a Pentecost icon in the
traditional Russian style by Fr. Andrei Tregubov. Those interested in
ordering resource materials for celebrating the 1998 Week of Prayer
should contact the institute at P.O. Box 300, Garrison, New York,
10524-0300, or call 914-424-3671, ext. 3303.
