BRISTOL, Tenn.--In a bold move contrary to academic tradition, King College
trustees recently named longtime professor Gregory D. Jordan to serve as
the college's 21st president. Jordan joined the college faculty in 1980. He
later served as chairperson of both the Bible and Religion Department and
the Humanities Division before being named vice president for academic
affairs and dean of faculty in 1990. Jordan received a bachelor's degree
from Bellhaven College and a master of divinity degree from Trinity
Evangelical Divinity School. He earned his doctorate in Hebraic and cognate
studies from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--R. Thomas Williamson was recently inaugurated as the
13th president of Westminster College. In his inaugural address Williamson
set forth the goal of firmly establishing Westminister College as one of
America's top 100 liberal arts colleges. Williamson, a 50-year-old Easton,
Pa., native, summed up his goals when he said, "We offer an educational
experience that is second to none. But we can do better than that. We can
provide for [students] the understanding that each day is a gift from God
and that we and they must invest this gift in the service of others."

WOOSTER, Ohio--The College of Wooster has received a $750,000 challenge
grant from the Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich., toward the renovation and
expansion of Severance Hall, the college's chemistry building. According to
the terms of the grant, the college must complete the project's funding,
estimated to total $10 million by Oct. 1, 1998, in order to qualify for the
Kresge grant. Current gifts and commitments total approximately $7.8
million. This means that some $2.2 million must be received in new gifts
and grants within the next 12 months. The project to renovate and enlarge
Wooster's chemistry building includes a 14,000-square-foot addition to the
existing 28,000-square-foot building, which was built in 1902 and remodeled
in 1960.
