TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--The campaign to raise $4.5 million for the Cordell Wynn
Humanities, Communications and Fine Arts Center at Stillman College is
gaining momentum and entering its final phase, campaign officials recently
announced. The national campaign now totals more than $2.8 million in gifts
and pledges, plus a challenge grant of $500,000 from an anonymous regional
foundation. The center will be the first new academic facility constructed
at Stillman in more than two decades. It will be named for Dr. Cordell
Wynn, president emeritus of Stillman College. Wynn, who retired June 30,
dedicated more than 15 years to Stillman and set new records for endowment
and enrollment, among other noteworthy accomplishments.

JAMESTOWN, N.D.--The Jamestown College board of trustees has accepted the
retirement resignation of President James S. Walker, the 10th and
second-longest-serving president in the college's 114-year history, and has
appointed Dr. Jerry Combee, executive vice president and dean of academic
affairs, as his successor. The change in leadership will take effect on
July 1, 1998. During Walker's tenure, enrollment grew from just under 400
students to today's record high of more than 1,100. He guided the college
through the construction of two residence halls, one academic building and
an outdoor chapel, as well as four major renovation projects of existing
buildings, including the science facilities, activity center, a residence
hall and dining facility.

CLARKSVILLE, Ark.--Dr. Rick D. Niece was inaugurated as 24th president at
the University of the Ozarks Nov. 1 in Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel on
the Clarksville campus. Niece, 50, was selected to lead the 164-year-old
institution of higher learning in April and began his duties June 26. He
and his wife, Sheree, moved to Clarksville from North Canton, Ohio, where
he was interim president of Walsh University. Niece attended Ohio State
University, where he received a bachelor's degree with majors in English
and speech. His master's degree and Ph.D. are from Kent State University in
Ohio.

DANVILLE, Ky.--Centre College has received a $500,000 gift from Louisville
businessman David Grissom that will be used to establish two new endowed
professorships at the college. At Grissom's request, the professorships
will be named for Paul L. Cantrell and Charles T. Hazelrigg, longtime
members of the English faculty. The new professorships will be designated
as positions in Centre's humanities division. Faculty members will be
appointed to hold the professorships on a three-year, rotating basis.
