APPLETON, Wis.--On Oct. 19, Winnebago Presbytery celebrated the birth of 
its newest congregation -- Northkirk Community Church in Appleton. 
    Worship, office and meeting space is being rented in north Appleton. 
Organizing pastor is the Rev. Scott Kenefake. 
 
BAINBRIDGE, N.Y.--The Ethiopian Partnership Subcommittee of Susquehanna 
Valley Presbyteryis organizing a special mission project for children in 
the presbytery. 
    The presbytery's partner church, the Western Wollega Bethel Synod in 
Ethiopia, supports several orphanages.  The subcommittee is asking Sunday 
school classes, children's choirs and other children's church groups to 
collect art work and pictures of themselves and of their churches to send 
to the orphanages as a way to connect the presbytery's kids with their 
partner brothers and sisters in Ethiopia. 
 
LOS ANGELES--The 20th annual Stewardship and Mission Rally of the Synod of 
Southern California and Hawaii has been scheduled for Feb. 7, 1998, at 
Trinity Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana, Calif. 
    Keynote speakers will be General Assembly moderator Patricia G. Brown; 
General Assembly coordinator for youth and young adult ministries Rodger 
Nishioka; and the Rev. Marian McClure, the new director of the Worldwide 
Ministries Division in Louisville. 
 
KALAMAZOO, Mich.--As part of its mission partnership in Nicaragua, Lake 
Michigan Presbyteryis sponsoring a travel seminar to that country Jan. 
16-26. 
    Titled "A Gift of New Eyes," the trip will include visits to churches, 
schools, health centers, cooperatives, agricultural and economic 
development projects and time with Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) 
missionaries Steve and Ellen Herrick. 
 
CAMP HILL, Pa.--The Synod of The Trinity has developed a pilot project for 
stewardship training of pastors serving small-membership churches. 
Twenty-five participants will gather Nov. 19-21 for the first phase of the 
project. 
    Stewardship models will be devised and tested with a follow-up event 
later to evaluate results and share resources.  Funding for the project 
comes from the synod's Communication and Stewardship Unit, its Evangelism 
and Church Development Unit, supporting presbyteries and The Bicentennial 
Fund. 
 
COLUMBUS, Ohio--Twelve persons from Pahk 2 Presbytery in Thailand recently 
completed a visit to Scioto Valley Presbytery as part of the two 
presbyteries' international partnership.  The team was made up of persons 
from churches in Thailand that have "twinning" relationships with Scioto 
Valley congregations. 
    In addition to those visits, the Thai visitors offered special music 
for the presbytery's worship service and visited area missions. 
 
AZUSA, Calif.--The Rev. Dale Morgan, pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian 
Church in Santa Barbara, will be the keynote preacher for CODE '98, the 
church officer development event of San Gabriel Presbytery and San Fernando 
Presbytery, set for Jan. 24.  Morgan is a former member of San Gabriel 
Presbytery. 
    The event, which will be held at La Canada Presbyterian Church in San 
Fernando Presbytery, will also include workshops for elders and deacons in 
English, Korean and Spanish.  Workshop topics include mission, education, 
stewardship and worship. 
 
SEATTLE--Faced with several tough issues, representatives from the seven 
presbyteries of the Synod of Alaska-Northwest, reaffirmed their commitment 
to synodwide mission at a Sept. 30-Oct. 1 consultation here. 
    The consultation, entitled "Signposts on Our Journey," resulted in the 
preliminary formulation of a plan that involves increased per capita 
funding to sustain the synod's mission in Alaska Presbytery. 
 
OKLAHOMA CITY--The Evangelism and Church Development and Theology and 
Worship committees of Indian Nations Presbytery are co-sponsoring a 
workshop on "effective worship," Jan. 31 at First Presbyterian Church here. 
    Led by renowned church growth expert Herb Miller, the purpose of the 
workshop is to help congregations "design services that attract and 
spiritually enrich contemporary adults."
