    National Presbyterian Teleconference
    Slated for December 10

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--"Voices of Hope: An Advent Gathering of Presbyterians," a
90-minute national teleconference for Presbyterians, has been scheduled for
Wednesday, December 10, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The teleconference, originating from Louisville, will feature a
30-minute call-in segment during which viewers may phone in prayer requests
that will later be incorporated into a worship service led by General
Assembly moderator Patricia G. Brown. The telecast also may be signed for
the hearing impaired.

The program is being designed by Brown, Congregational Ministries
Division associate for worship Paul Detterman and Presbyterian Association
of Musicians administrator Bryan Hoover. Technical direction is being
coordinated by Claude Brock, coordinator for church and public relations in
the General Assembly Council's Office of Communication. Greg Kapfhammer,
operations manager for the Media Services office, is the program's
technical engineer.

The Rev. Frank Diaz, the Council's interim executive director, told the
Presbyterian News Service he hopes the teleconference will enable
Presbyterians to "symbolically hold hands in prayer as we anticipate the
birth of Jesus Christ." He said he also hopes the teleconference will
serve as "a launching pad to bring the denomination together."

This will be the second national Presbyterian teleconference. The
first one last May previewed the 1997 General Assembly and gave viewers the
opportunity to phone in questions about the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to
a panel of denominational leaders.

"Voices of Hope" represents the continuing effort "to make this new
medium available to Presbyterians in a meaningful way," Brock noted.

Detailed information about the program and how groups of Presbyterians
can set up downlinks in their areas will be forthcoming shortly, according
to Brock. He can be contacted at (502) 569-5518 or by e-mail at
