Mission board seeks students
for chorale tour in Russia, Baltics

			by United Methodist News Service

A "youth mission chorale" whose participants will share their faith through
music, drama, personal experience and witness is being organized for a
six-week tour of Russia and the Baltic States.
The tour, set for May 30-July 15, 1998, is sponsored by the United Methodist
Board of Global Ministries.
The Rev. S.T. Kimbrough, Jr., associate general secretary for mission
evangelism, said the board is seeking 16 to 20 United Methodist college
students to form the chorale. Up to four instrumentalists -- on piano,
keyboard or guitar -- also may be selected.
Traveling to Switzerland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia, the group
will offer musical performances, interact with people of diverse cultures,
share faith experiences as a Christian and learn about the history, culture,
religions, and current political and economic realities of the countries
visited. An emphasis will be placed on encounters with emerging United
Methodist faith communities in those countries.
	"It's not just a choir tour," Kimbrough said. "It's really a faith-sharing
type of experience."
Potential participants must be able to read music; submit three letters of
recommendation, including one from the student's pastor; and provide an
audition tape and photograph by Dec. 15. Those selected must pay $1,500 toward
tour costs, with the remainder of the expenses being covered by the Board of
Global Ministries.
For specific information regarding qualification and application
requirements, call Kimbrough at (212) 870-3914.
