Pension and health benefits board
plans reduction in work force

by United Methodist News Service

The United Methodist Board of Pension and Health Benefits announced Nov. 7,
that it plans a 10 percent reduction in its work force by Feb. 28, 1998.
Employees in the offices of collections and disbursements, customer service,
and benefits administration will be affected by the restructuring -- 24
positions.
The changes "are designed to ensure a structure that assists us in meeting
our participant service goals, improved responsiveness, accuracy and
flexibility," said Barbara Boigegrain, top staff executive.
The 24 employees have been asked "to remain with us during our critical
transition period, which continues through February," Boigegrain said. "Those
who assist us during our transition period will be offered a retention
payment. Each employee who no longer has a job will also be offered severance
benefits and assistance in finding new employment."
Fewer people will be needed in the affected departments when the
re-engineered process becomes fully operational at the end of February,
according to a board spokesperson.
Currently, the Board of Pension and Health Benefits has 240 employees at its
offices in Evanston, Ill.
