ELKINS, W.Va.--Davis & Elkins College has announced the receipt of a $3
million grant from JSM Charitable Trust of St. Louis, Mo., in support of a
new athletic/physical education center on campus. College officials say
architectural planning is in progress for the second phase of a three-phase
program designed to upgrade and expand the college's athletic facilities.
The first phase of the project, Gates Tower, a service facility, opened at
the beginning of the 1997-98 academic session and was dedicated in October.

RALEIGH, N.C.-Peace College has received a $250,000 gift from the A.J.
Fletcher Foundation toward the construction of a cellular and molecular
biology laboratory. The laboratory, to be housed in Peace's Pressly Hall,
will afford students access to advanced laboratory experiences in the
modern techniques of molecular and cellular biology. The laboratory will
support the teaching of courses in microbiology, cellular and developmental
biology, molecular biology and genetics. The laboratory is being built in
response to the recent addition of a biology major, one of several
baccalaureate options now offered at the college. Construction of the
laboratory will begin this spring and be completed by the beginning of the
1998 fall semester.

DANVILLE, Ky.-Centre College has established a new scholarship based on an
$800,000 gift to the college endowment from Louisville businessman David
Grissom. Earnings from the fund will provide annual scholarships to
students marked with a strong potential for leadership. Centre has selected
a freshman from northern Kentucky, Jason Crosby of Villa Hills, as the
college's first Grissom Scholar. Each year, Centre will choose one entering
freshman student to become a Grissom scholar. The scholarships will be
renewable throughout the student's four years at the college.
