INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- The Rev. William L.
Bass, Altoona, Iowa, has been called to the
position of general consultant for Board of Church
Extension of Disciples of Christ, beginning April
6.

Bass currently is deputy regional minister of
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the
Upper Midwest. He comes to the new position after
12 years in regional ministry where he worked with
congregations in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota.

The new consultant will give primary
attention to counseling congregations and regions
on their facility and capital needs, said the Rev.
James L. Powell, president of the international
planning and financing unit.

"Bill brings to this position both the
experience as a local church pastor and the
insight of consulting daily with a wide variety of
Disciples congregations," Powell noted. "We are
blessed with having someone join our staff knowing
the heartbeat of our congregations, their needs,
challenges and potential for growth and dynamic
ministry.

"His years of ministry and church management,
particularly his support in establishing new
congregations, will provide a wonderful blend as
he helps congregations across North America with
their building and financing plans."

As a regional ministry associate and deputy,
Bass has been responsible for nurturing pastors
and congregations, for youth ministry and camping,
leader development, and new congregation
establishment. Prior to regional work, he
pastored congregations in Nevada, Iowa, and
Atlanta, Ind.

Bass holds the doctor of ministry and master
of sacred music degrees from Christian Theological
Seminary, Indianapolis. He also holds a master of
music degree from Butler University, Indianapolis,
and a bachelor's degree from Culver-Stockton
College, Canton, Mo.

Bass grew up in Louisiana, Mo., where he was
ordained in the community's First Christian Church
in April 1970. Bass and his wife, Carol, currently
are members of Altoona Christian Church. The
Basses are the parents of two grown children,
William II and Cheri.
