Episcopal children's advocacy conference to honor Edelman
	(ENS) In conjunction with the annual conference of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) in Los Angeles, March 25-29, the Diocese of Los Angeles is hosting a two-day gathering designed especially for Episcopalians, "Our Church's Voice for Children." During the Episcopal gathering on March 24-25, CDF founder and president Marian Wright Edelman will be installed as an honorary canon of the Cathedral Center of St. Paul by Bishop Frederick Borsch of Los Angeles. Other events include a keynote address by Canon George Regas, president of Pasadena's Coalition for a Non-Violent City. The conference will underscore ways the church can better protect and nurture children and foster societal change. An "Advocacy in Action" tour which will take conferees to several Los Angeles-area sites providing after-school care and other services to children. Kanuga hosts Alpha course evangelism training
	(ENS) Kanuga Conference Center will sponsor a residential conference for persons who want to lead the Alpha course, a successful evangelism program, May 31-June 3. Founded in England out of the evangelical tradition of the Anglican Church, the Alpha course is a 10-week practical introduction to the Christian faith, primarily for non-churchgoers and new Christians. Kanuga's introduction to the Alpha course will explore how to start an Alpha course, how to train leadership teams, the "Americanization" of Alpha, and how to integrate Alpha into the church. This event is for leaders who come on their own or with proposed or existing leadership teams. A primary speaker will be the Rev. Nicky Gumbel, who runs the Alpha course at Holy Trinity Brompton, London, the parish that established Alpha more than 20 years ago. The cost is $325 per person, which includes the program, double occupancy lodging, meals, and recreational facilities; $375 single occupancy, $295 for participating spou!

Women's Leadership Conference to be held in Vancouver
(ENS) The first North American Anglican Women's Leadership Conference will be held July 30 to August 2 at the University of British Columbia, (UBC) Vancouver, Canada. The conference is open to all women, lay and clergy, but there is limited space and organizers advise applying before February 28. The campus is within walking distance of the ocean and provides easy access to bus transportation to Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and Seattle. For those who may wish to arrive early, the Vancouver School of Theology will be host to its annual Native Ministries Consortium.  Information about the consortium, which provides continuing education credit, will be sent to participants upon request.  Conference fees are $175 for commuter, $275 for a double room on campus with meals and $350 for a single.
