MEMPHIS, Tenn.-The James Harold Daughdrill, Jr. and Elizabeth Gay 
Daughdrill Endowed Faculty Chairs have been established by the Rhodes 
College Board of Trustees. The chairs were made possible with gifts by 
Rhodes trustees that totaled just over $1 million. The announcement came 
just before the start of Rhode's 150th Anniversary Ball launching the 
colleges' Sesquicentennial Year. The Daughdrills joined Rhodes in January 
1973 when Jim Daughdrill became the 18th president of the college. Under 
Daughdrill's leadership, the college has experienced 25 years of balanced 
budgets and an endowment of nearly $200 million. 
 
LAKE FOREST, Ill.- Mr. and Mrs. Edward K. Cleveland, Lake Forest College 
class of 1931, of Grants Pass, Ore., recently gave the college a gift in 
excess of $1 million to honor the memory of Mrs. Cleveland's parents, Mr. 
and Mrs. Ferdinand H. Young. The donation will make possible the renovation 
of Bradley Lodge as an international student center. Bradley is scheduled 
to undergo extensive remodeling and eventually will house 25 to 28 
full-time students. The residence will be renamed the Cleveland-Young 
International Center and is expected to open in the fall of 1988. 
 
DUBUQUE, Iowa-J. Bruce Merriweather, University of Dubuque acting president 
and chair of the board of trustees, and R. Gerald Fox, former chair of the 
board of trustees and chair of the selection committee, announced jointly 
recently that a new president has been selected to succeed president 
Merriweather when his appointment expires later this spring. Dr. Jeffrey F. 
Bullock, vice president of the University of Dubuque and dean of the 
University of Dubuque Theological Seminar will be appointed the new 
president effective June 1, 1998. Bullock joined the university in 1996. 
Prior to his appointment in Dubuque, Bullock was adjunct professor at 
Seattle Pacific University and lectured at the University of Washington. 
Bullock earned a bachelor of arts degree at Seattle Pacific University, a 
master of divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and a 
master of arts and doctorate in communication from the University of 
Washington. An ordained Presbyterian pastor, Bullock has served 
congregations in Pennsylvania and Washington. 
 
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.-Eckerd College president Peter H. Armacost announced 
recently the successful completion of the Campaign for Eckerd College. The 
college exceeded the $33 million campaign goal with gifts and pledges 
totaling $33,827,911. The campaign focused on three key areas: endowment, 
facilities and equipment, and annual support, which strengthened Eckerd's 
ability to remain among the nation's finest liberal arts colleges. The 
college received 82 major gifts of $100,000 or more, including gifts and 
pledges from some of Southwest Florida's most prominent families and 
business leaders. Additional support for the campaign came through more 
than 4,600 personal, corporate and planned gifts, including 10 gifts of $1 
million or more by current or former college trustees, whose collective 
commitment exceeded $17 million.
