United Methodist annual conference
summer sessions announced

	NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- When lay and clergy members of the
Missouri East and West Annual Conferences meet in their respective 1998
summer sessions, they  will asked to vote on whether the two annual
conferences should become one.
If approved, the new Missouri Annual Conference would take effect July
1, 1999.
Administrative and program matters, social issues, worship and
celebrations will be on the docket of all 66 U.S. Annual conference as
they meet this summer.  The 51 conferences in Europe, Africa and the
Philippines meet throughout the year.
	The sessions will also include the ordination of deacons and
elders and the recognition of retiring clergy.
	The bishop of the area will preside over the sessions and
announce the annual appointments of clergy to local churches and other
ministries.
	The 66 U.S. annual conferences will begin with the Red Bird
Missionary Conference in Beverly Ky., May 8-9, and close with the
California-Nevada, California-Pacific, Pacific Northwest and Yellowstone
conferences ending on June 21.
