10th anniversary of Sabah Theological Seminary

GENEVA, 30 April 1998 (lwi) - Lutheran World Federation (LWF) general
secretary, Ishmael Noko, will preach at a festive worship service marking
the tenth anniversary of the Sabah Theological Seminary in Malaysia, May 2.
During his May 1-5 journey, Noko also will meet with the leadership of the
four Lutheran LWF member churches in Malaysia - the Basel Christian Church
of Malaysia, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malaysia, the Lutheran
Church in Malaysia and The Protestant Church in Sabah. All four belong to
the Federation of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Malaysia, established in
1977.

Audiences with the Malaysian prime minister, Mahathin bin Mohamed, and
chief minister of Sabah, Hajli Sakaran Dandai, also are planned.

About nine percent of the approximately 20 million inhabitants of Malaysia
are Christian. The Lutheran churches together have about 85,000 members.
