 ... Evangelical Church of the River Plate pastors come to aid of El Ni¤o
flood victims. At their annual meeting at the end of April, some 70 pastors
in the Evangelical Church of the River Plate (IERP) decided to make a
percentage of their annual income available to El Ni¤o flood victims. About
120,000 people had to be evacuated from the regions of Chaco, Corrientes,
Formosa, Santa Fe and Entre Rios. The loss of crops and possessions is
officially estimated at USD 600 million. The pastors have appealed to the
church congregations to work together to deal with the catastrophe. The
critical situation of many households will continue for a long time, until
the water level has gone down, and the camera crews have gone home.

 ... Won-Sang Ji, former president of the Lutheran Church in Korea, passes
away. Former president of the Lutheran Church in Korea (LCK), Won-Sang Ji,
died April 27, aged 70. Ji was elected to be the first president of the
LCK, a post which he held for almost 23 years from 1971-1993. From 1990-1997, he was an adviser on the Standing Committee for Ecumenical Affairs of
the LWF Council.

The official report of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Ninth Assembly
held in Hong Kong last year has been published in English and German.
Spanish and French versions, currently in preparation, will follow. A copy
of the report has been sent to all Assembly participants, in their chosen
language, from Hong Kong. Extra copies may be ordered from the LWF Office
for Communication Services, 150 route de Ferney, P.O. Box 2100, CH-1211
Geneva 2, Switzerland, or by fax: 0041/22-798 86 16. The report is priced
at DEM 32, CHF 25 or USD 18 which includes both surface mail and packaging.
