Eighteen receive overseas appointments

	INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- Eighteen persons recently were approved for overseas mission posts by the Common Global Ministries board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ.

	The Rev. Phyllis M. Byrd, Queens, N.Y., begins a three-year term with the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. She will serve as a theological tutor in Nairobi, Kenya. Byrd recently finished a term as assistant to the general secretary of the All Africa Council of Churches. 

	The Rev. Judy Chin Chan, Silver Spring, Md., begins a three-year term with the Hong Kong Christian Council, working in staff development and public relations.  She just finished a four-year term with the Christian Council as an assistant to the general secretary.

	Andrew G. and Ellen H. Collins, Durham, N.C., are returning for a three-year assignment with the United Mission to Nepal. Andrew will work as an audiovisual consultant and Ellen will do health care training and develop curriculum.

	The Rev. Lawrence C. and Carol C. Gilley, Flushing, N.Y., are serving for three years with the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa. The couple will assist in designing and implementing residential and continuing education events at Kuruman Center.

	Frank C. and Kassiani Glenn, Richmond, Va., will work as volunteers for two years with Silliman University, Dumaguete City, Philippines. He will teach in the department of philosophy and religious studies. She will teach social work and assist with the development of related
programs.

	The Revs. Tod N. and Ana K. Gobledale, Concord, N.H., are returning  for three-year appointments with the Zimbabwe Synod of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa. The couple is continuing a previous assignment as pastor-developers of a congregation in
Plumtree, Zimbabwe.

	Helen A. Grant, Indianapolis, was appointed to a two-year term as a global mission intern with the Jerusalem office of American Near East Refugee Aid. Her work will involve collecting information and organizing data for proposal writing and other administrative tasks.  

	Casilda Luzares, Manila, Philippines, will serve for three years as an international associate with the Council on Cooperative Mission in Japan. She is continuing an assignment as an English professor at Doshisha University.

	Jeni Rose Pia, Wabasha, Minn., was appointed to a one-year assignment as a global mission intern with the United Church of Christ in the Philippines. She will work in social service ministries. 

	Bridget R. Robinson, Kansas City, Kan., is serving a three-year term with Cape Town Mission, South Africa. She will serve as an education consultant, working with street children.

	Jamie A. Rutherford, Greenwich, Conn., received a two-year term as a global mission intern with the Association of Evangelical Institutions of Honduras. She will serve as a program assistant for AIEH's health clinics.

	The Rev. Peter Savage, Norwell, Mass., will serve for three years with the Christian Center for Family Counseling, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He will continue as director of the counseling center.

	The Revs. George E. and Joyce L. Wiley, Asuncion, Paraguay, were appointed to 17-month terms with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Paraguay. He will volunteer as an internal auditor with Friendship Mission. She will continue a mission assignment with a preschool program of the Disciples community in Asuncion.
