    June 21 Is Men of The Church Day

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-In 1997, more than 60 percent of the congregations of the 
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) expanded their observance of Father's Day to 
include all of the men of the church - fathers, men without children, 
stepfathers and single men. 
 
    Hoping to strengthen that new tradition, the Office of Men's Ministries 
in the Congregational Ministries Division has prepared liturgical resources 
for the 1998 observance of Men of the Church Emphasis Sunday, June 21. 
 
    Organized around the theme "For you shall go ..." (Jer. 1:6-8), the 
resources include a call to worship, prayer for the day, minute for 
mission, scripture readings, a selection of hymns and a charge and 
benediction. 
 
    The resources were included in the most recent Info-Pak mailing from 
Louisville. 
 
    The church's Coordinating Committee for Men's Ministry has designated 
1998 as a time for Presbyterian men "to recommit themselves to being 
actively engaged in carrying out the mission to which they have been 
called." 
 
    The National Council of Presbyterian Men has developed global, national 
and local mission projects for local chapters of the organization.  The 
global project is to provide water purification units to communities around 
the world that suffer from the effects of unclean water.  The focus of the 
national project is development of programs to combat racism.  Locally, the 
organization is seeking to develop mentoring programs for boys, 
particularly boys who live in single-parent households without a male role 
model.
