Assembly Asked to Continue Peacemaking Efforts in Korea

by Nancy Rodman

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-The General Assembly will be asked to continue its
peacemaking efforts in Korea by approving a recommendation from the
Assembly Committee on Peacemaking, International Service and Concerns to
work for peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula and reconciliation
of the peoples of the Republic of Korea (South) and the Democratic People's
Republic of Korea (North).
If approved, the measure also would continue dialogue with North Korean
and United States government officials for furthering peaceful
relationships between the U.S. and North Korea. It would continue the work
with the Korean Christian Federation as they equip and strengthen
congregations and more than 500 "house churches."
Presbyterians would continue their offerings of prayer and funds for
immediate needs for food and grains and for long-term development needs.
The measure would support the reunion of the ten million separated families
in North and South Korea and in the diaspora around the world.
