Presbyterian College Brings Fifteen to GA for Educational Experiences

    by Bill Lancaster

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., brought 11 students
and four recent graduates to the 210th General Assembly for one of three
educational experiences. Seven are serving as Youth Advisory
Delegates(YADs), three are enrolled in Jack Rogers' class on
"Presbyterianism--Principles and Practice," four are participating in the
Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (APCE) certification course on
polity, and one is current co-moderator of the Presbyterian Youth
Connection.
Nine of the fifteen are participants in Celtic Cross, a church
leadership development program at the college co-sponsored by First
Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, S.C. Celtic Cross' objective is to
challenge the college's most outstanding Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
students to consider ministry as vocation. Forty-six students were
enrolled in Celtic Cross during the last academic year.
At the 209th General Assembly (1997) in Syracuse, N.Y., seven Celtic
Cross students were YADs and two were participants in the course on
Presbyterianism.
Accompanying this year's group are Bob Smith, director of Celtic Cross
and director of church relations, and Peter Hobbie, chair of the Department
of Religion.
