National Black Presbyterian Caucus Hears Church Growth Challenge

    by Joanne Hines

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--An inspiring evening which looked back to honor the saints
of its past and looked forward with the challenge to grow, was the focus of
the National Black Presbyterian Caucus Dinner on Wednesday night.
From the singing of the soul stirring, "Lift Every Voice and Sing,"
and various musical offerings to the uplifting and challenging message of
the Rev. Dr. Marsha Snulligan-Haney, the celebration offered the audience
both vision and concrete steps for church growth.
Haney, assistant professor of Missiology and Religions of the World at
the Interdenominational Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Ga. outlined
reasons why the unchurched may not be in our churches and then challenged
listeners to become incarnational in their ministry.
Citing specific steps the church can take to reach out to persons in
their own neighborhoods she provided both vision and direction for a church
which must answer the question "Do you want to be healed?"
