PITTSBURGH-Seminary president C. Samuel Calian has announced the 
establishment of two new faculty chairs at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. 
The Rev. Ronald Peters, associate professor of urban ministry and director 
of the seminary's Metro-Urban Institute, will be the first occupant of the 
Henry L. Hillman Chair in Urban Ministry Studies.  The second newly 
established chair, the William Stucki Hansen Chair for Christian Education 
and Youth Ministry, is funded by the Foundation of the same name.  The 
seminary has begun a search for the person to fill that chair, a position 
formerly held by retiring faculty member M. Harjie Likins. 
 
SAN ANSELMO, Calif.-San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) has received 
a $125,000 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations to help fund 
renovation of the seminary's Geneva Hall library.  The grant will be used 
to fund climate control, security and fire protection improvements.  The 
SFTS library contains over 100,000 books, periodicals, manuscripts, 
pamphlets, letters and religious and historical artifacts.  It is part of 
the Flora Lamson Hewlett Library of the Graduate Theological Union at 
Berkeley, which is among the largest theological collections in the United 
States. 
 
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Rev. David Wood, currently associate pastor of the 
American Church in Paris, France, will join the Louisville Presbyterian 
Theological Seminary community as associate director of the Louisville 
Institute in the fall.  Wood - an ordained minister in the American Baptist 
Churches in the U.S.A. - will work with selected grant programs within the 
Institute, particularly study grants for the Religious Leaders' Program.  A 
native of Australia, he has served churches in Maine and Connecticut. 
 
AUSTIN, Texas-Sixty-seven students received degrees from Austin 
Presbyterian Theological Seminary May 24.  Seven received the Master of 
Arts degree; 47, the Master of Divinity degree; and 11 the Doctor of 
Ministry degree.  Two students will receive diplomas.  The graduating class 
was composed of students from seven denominations; 21 were Texas natives 
and some graduating students were from South America and Africa.  The Rev. 
Marvin C. Griffin, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Austin, spoke on 
the topic: "Truth in a Culture of Disbelief."  He is a member of the 
seminary's board of trustees. 
 
RICHMOND, Va.-In the first year after the federation of Union Theological 
Seminary and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, contributions 
to the Union-PSCE annual fund have exceeded the $1.36 million goal.  As of 
June 30, 1,835 individuals contributed more than $1.4 million in 
unrestricted gifts to the school.  Restricted gifts - donated for a 
specific purpose - totaled $1.16 million, topping a goal of $1 million. 
 
CHICAGO-McCormick Theological Seminary marked its 164th Commencement June 9 
by awarding degrees to 113 graduates at Rockefeller Chapel on the 
University of Chicago campus.  Graduates included Rep. Bobby L. Rush of the 
First Congressional District of Illinois, 37 students from Korea and Puerto 
Rico, and International Fellows from Burma, Belarus, Brazil and Ghana.  The 
Rev. Addie L. Wyatt, respected internationally for her work in the labor, 
civil rights and women's movements, delivered the address: "Called and 
Going."  She is a member of McCormick's board of trustees and co-pastor of 
Vernon Park Church of God in Chicago.
