    Notes about People

    The Rev. Mary E. McNamara, a Presbyterian minister, has been named 
interim president of Union Theological Seminary in New York.  She began 
July 1, succeeding Holland L. Hendrix, who had served as president since 
1991.  McNamara also retains her position as president and executive 
director of the Interchurch Center in New York City.  She is parish 
associate at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.

    Roxanna R. Coop, 64, a former Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) missionary 
and national staff member, died May 26 at her home in Estes Park, Colo.  A 
memorial service was held June 4 at Community Church of the Rockies, where 
she was an elder. 
    "Roxi" Coop was a missionary to the South Pacific from 1972 to 1977 and 
then served as a program associate for social welfare ministries of the 
PC(USA) for 10 years. 
    She is survived by two sons, Daniel R. Bertini of Boulder, Colo., and 
Joseph W. Coop of Estes Park; a grandson, Walter F. Bertini, and a 
granddaughter, Caroline L. Bertini, both of Boulder; and a sister, Susanna 
R. Knodt of Littleton, Colo.

    The Rev. William Robert Yingling, a longtime chaplain and Christian 
educator in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died May 2, less than a month 
after celebrating his 90th birthday. 
    Following his graduation from McCormick Theological Seminary, Yingling 
served country churches in Missouri and Ohio.  From 1942 to 1945 he was 
director of the Presbyterian Church-sponsored Fellowship House, an outreach 
ministry to the 10,000 military personnel stationed at Borenqu¡n Air Force 
Base in Puerto Rico. 
    After serving as dean of the chapel of Park College in Parkville, Mo., 
from 1945 to 1950, Yingling became director of Christian education for the 
Synod of Pennsylvania, a position he held until his retirement in 1973. 
    A memorial service was held May 29 at Green Ridge Village in Newville, 
Pa., where Yingling was living with his wife, Dorothy, at the time of his 
death.

    Virginia I. "Ginny" Francis, 87, former executive secretary of the 
Women's Department in the Board of Christian Education of the United 
Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, died May 18 in Palm 
Beach Gardens, Fla. 
    Francis worked for the Women's Department from 1945 to 1982.  Prior to 
that she worked for the Girl Scouts of America for 20 years.
