SAN FRANCISCO (UMNS) -- The congregation at Glide Memorial United
Methodist Church feeds, clothes or educates thousands of people each
year.

Foremost among its services, the church offers three hot meals a day
(some 1,000 servings each day), 365 days a year.

In addition, it has ongoing programs in:
*	substance abuse recovery;
*	sexual/physical abuse recovery and counseling;
*	job counseling, job skills training and job placement;
*	mental health counseling and referral;
*	health care services and preventive health care education;
*	family and individual counseling;
*	computer skills training;
*	child mentor program;
*	crisis center;
*	parenting skills training;
*	anger management;
*	support groups for teen-age mothers;
*	liaisons with public schools;
*	college preparedness; and
*	after school programs.

For some children in the San Francisco's Tenderloin District, Glide's
after school program is the only stable element in their lives and the
only home they know. Through the care and educational opportunities they
receive there, some of these children have managed to break out of the
poverty cycle, graduate from college and enter well-paying careers.
