    Presbyterian Publishing Corporation
    Reports Stability And Viability

    by Julian Shipp

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-The Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) reported
financial growth and profitability of its new resources during the General
Assembly Council (GAC) meeting here June 11.

The Rev. Robert Bohl of Prairie Village, Kan., PPC board chair, told
the Council that the four-year-old financially self-supporting corporation
has a current surplus of $378,000.

That figure is down from those of the previous two years, and Bohl
blamed the decrease on fewer "Presbyterian Hymnal" sales and a "growing
cultural shift" from print to electronic media. Bohl said PPC is responding
to the technological revolution and cited PPC's "up and running" Web site
as an example.

Bohl said PPC is also enjoying success from its recent partnership with
the Office of the General Assembly (OGA). He said there has been "good
sales response" to the jointly produced "Book of Order." He said PPC will
also produce electronic versions of the "Book of Order" and the "Companion
to the Constitution."

Responding to changing patterns of worship across the denomination,
Bohl said, Geneva Press will publish "Lift Up Your Hearts," a contemporary
worship hymnal. While retaining a connection to the Reformed tradition, he
said, the hymnal should appeal to Presbyterian congregations that use
contemporary hymns during worship.

Bohl said PPC is also pleased to be the printer and publisher of the
every-household publication "Presbyterians: Being Faithful to Jesus
Christ." The quarterly publication has a circulation of approximately
600,000.
