Cardinal Cassidy: Document's value not jeopardized by controversial points

GENEVA/VATICAN CITY, 9 July 1998 (lwi) - The "Response of the Catholic
Church to the Joint Declaration of the Catholic Church and the Lutheran
World Federation on the Doctrine of Justification" was presented by
Cardinal Edward Cassidy and Bishop Pierre Duprey of the Pontifical Council
for Promoting Christian Unity at a press conference in Rome, June 25.

Cassidy told the conference that the Joint Declaration is indeed a
"milestone" on the path to Christian unity and that there is no way back.
The remaining "cloudiness" over some issues, does not detract from the
value of the document, he said.
