MARYVILLE, Tenn.-Maryville College recently received a grant of $35,000
from The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation of Princeton, N.J. The grant was
one of 14 such grants, totaling $400,000, which will provide Newcombe
Scholarships at institutions of higher education related to the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A).
WOOSTER, Ohio-The College of Wooster has received a $300,000 grant from the
Henry Luce Foundation, Inc., in support of the renovation and expansion of
the Severance Chemistry Building. Originally constructed in 1902 to house
the Department of Chemistry, Severance was remodeled in 1960. The current
construction began this past May, with completion scheduled for the fall of
1999. The work includes the complete renovation of the building's existing
28,000 square feet plus a 14,000-square-foot addition. When finished,
Severance will contain lecture halls, faculty offices, state-of-the-art
laboratories for several fields of chemistry, including inorganic, organic,
analytical, physical, and biochemistry, as well as faculties for student
independent study and faculty research projects.
