    A scholarship fund has been established in honor of the Rev. Frank 
Diaz, the recently retired interim executive director of the General 
Assembly Council.  The fund, established by the Staff Leadership Team (the 
division directors, the director of Mission Support Services, and senior 
GAC staff), was announced at a farewell reception for Diaz Aug. 6 with 
initial pledges of $10,000. 
    The fund will be used to support theological education scholarships at 
PC(USA)-related theological institutions for native Spanish speakers or 
students with Spanish language skills who have a demonstrable commitment to 
ministry with Spanish-speaking persons. 
    Contributions to the scholarship fund may be sent to the Presbyterian 
Church (U.S.A.) Foundation, 200 E. 12th Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47130, 
and designated for the "Frank Diaz Scholarship Fund."

    Julian Shipp, a reporter for the Presbyterian News Service since 1994, 
has resigned to accept a position as associate for promotion in the Mission 
Interpretation and Promotion Program Area of the Congregational Ministries 
Division. 
    Shipp, who's wife, Theresa, is expecting their first child, said the 
new job means "more money and less travel." 
    The Presbyterian News Service has begun the search for his successor.

    The Rev. Barbara Green, a longtime staff member of the Presbyterian 
Church (U.S.A.) Washington Office, has been named to a two-year term as 
interim director of the Center for Theology and Public Policy, an 
ecumenical research center in Washington. 
    The center works on justice, peace and ecology issues and is based at 
Wesley Theological Seminary, a United Methodist school. 
    Before her position at the PC(USA) Washington Office was eliminated due 
to budget cuts this spring, Green served there for 15 years, working 
primarily on peace and international issues.  A graduate of Yale Divinity 
School, Green also previously worked in Germany on behalf of the National 
Council of Churches.

    The Rev. Charles W. Watt, 67, a longtime pastor and staff member at all 
levels of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died Aug. 11 at his home in Old 
Saybrook, Conn. 
    Watt, a graduate of Westminster (Pa.) College and Pittsburgh 
Theological Seminary, served pastorates in Pennsylvania, Missouri, 
Minnesota and Wisconsin.  His final pastoral service was as temporary 
supply pastor for Babcock Presbyterian Church in Ashaway, R.I.  He also 
served on the staffs of four presbyteries, the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, 
and as associate coordinator of health, education and social justice 
ministries in the former United Presbyterian Church in the United States of 
America. 
    Watt was married to Jane Searjeant Watt, executive presbyter for 
Southern New England Presbytery.  In addition to her, he is survived by two 
sons, Charles and David; two daughters, Margaret Watt-Morse and Rebecca Sue 
Watt; one stepdaughter, Lindsay Jane Jonasse; two stepsons, Jeffrey and 
Kevin Glassbrook; four brothers - Robert, James, Donald and Paul; and 13 
grandchildren. 
    A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of 
Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 13.

    The Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) has announced a number of 
staffing changes.  A. Thomas Maiuro, director of advertising and 
production, has been named director of marketing.  Maureen E. Spencer has 
been hired as managing editor of PPC.  The Rev. Thomas Vandergriff, who has 
been pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Loris, S.C., has been hired as 
church marketing manager.  Kelly Vandergriff will be PPC's new manager of 
rights and permissions, replacing Robin Andres, who will become associate 
for administration in the president and publisher's office. 
    In other changes, Stephanie Egnotovich has been named executive editor 
of Westminster John Knox Press; Karen Kaye is the new assistant editor in 
PPC's publishing division; Martha Murrell has moved into publishing as an 
administrative assistant; and Tina Livingston has joined the marketing 
department as an administrative assistant. 
    Also, Michele Blum has been promoted to associate production manager; 
Jennifer Cox was promoted to art director; and Sharon Adams is the new book 
designer.

    The Rev. Aubrey N. Brown Jr., 90, editor emeritus of "The Presbyterian 
Outlook," died at home in his sleep Aug. 6 in Richmond, Va.  A memorial 
service was held Aug. 9 at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church in Richmond. 
    A native Texan, Brown graduated from Davidson (N.C.) College in 1925 
and from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia in 1932.  He served two 
pastorates in West Virginia before moving to Richmond in 1943 to become 
editor of the magazine.  During his 35-year tenure, Brown, with his 
brother, James, founded the Outlook Book Service and used the weekly 
independent news and opinion magazine to promote Presbyterian reunion, 
racial justice, the opening of leadership in the denomination to minorities 
and women, and ecumenism. 
    He is survived by three sons - Aubrey N. Brown III, William H. Brown 
and Ernest T. Brown; five daughters - Zaida Gilmour, Julia Diehl, Katherine 
Weisiger, Virginia Ashworth and Eleanor Bigger; his brother, James; and 15 
grandchildren.
