BRAZIL. ANTI-DRUG CAMPAIGN MOBILISES MORE THAN 500
YOUTH
98/29/06

Vitoria da Conquista, Brazil, 06.09.1998 [ANN/APD]
More than 500 young people participated in a march
against drugs in the streets of Vitoria da Conquista,
Bahia, Brazil, in early August. They were accompanied
by trumpet fanfares that attracted the curiosity
of many hundreds of spectators, giving the opportunity
to distribute over 2,000 anti-drug pamphlets.

The event culminated in the city's main square with
lectures and testimonies of former addicts, together
with music from the vocal quartet Sandalus. Radio
Novo Tempo provided full coverage of the whole event.
In addition, 200 kilos of food were collected for an
institution that works for the rehabilitation of
alcoholics and drug addicts.
