NASHVILLE (UMNS) - The "Move On" radio series, produced by United
Methodist Communications (UMCom), was the only recipient of the national
1998 radio award by the National Broadcast Association for Community
Affairs during its recent annual convention.

The association's 1998 Partner in Public Service Award of Merit is the
seventh national award the series has claimed since its release in late
1997. The series won the award based on its public service values.

"Move On" uses messages about everyday, common concerns to reach the
general public as well as unchurched people who may be seeking a
congregational home. Each spot features people commenting on how
self-imposed limits can prevent them from becoming who they were created
to be.

The association's members are "professionals who have devoted their
lives to serving the public through broadcasting," said UMCom Radio
Producer Bill Wolfe. "It is always a high honor to be recognized by
these individuals and the organization they represent." 

Other organizations eligible for competition in the Partners in Public
Service unit include the Peace Corps, the National Crime Prevention
Council, CARE, the Internal Revenue Service, the National Easter Seal
Society, the Points of Light Foundation, the National Kidney Foundation,
the American Cancer Society and the American Federation of Teachers.

"In a society that often assumes the days of PSAs (public service
announcements) are over, this award's implications that UMCom has
contributed campaigns that serve community interests are especially
gratifying," Wolfe said.
