ADRA Workers Evacuate Hospital and Rehabilitation Camp in
Sierra Leone
[98/39/05]

Freetown, Sierra Leone [APD/ADRA] Aid workers from the
Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) evacuated a
hospital and rehabilitation camp for war amputees in the town
of Waterloo amid a rebel advance on West African
intervention troops defending the government, according to
recent press reports. The war among the government and
members of Sierra Leone's ousted military junta and its rebel
allies has been on-going for 10 months, according to a news
report by the Associated Press. The press report indicated
that thousands of people have been killed, raped and maimed
by the rebels in a sweeping revenge campaign against the
government. The hospital and rehabilitation camp where the
aid workers were housed is 20 miles east of Freetown.
