New Adventist Radio Stations in Caribbean and Africa

Bracknell, Berkshire, United Kingdom, 27.01.1999
[AWR/APD] The Seventh-day Adventist Church's radio
outreach organisation Adventist World Radio (AWR)
announced this week that several new stations will be
broadcasting soon.

"The Caribbean islands of Curacao and Bonaire will
soon be able to tune into the Voice of Hope on a local
station," says Greg Scott, AWR-Pan America region
director. The new FM station, to be known locally as
"Alpha 92" will be located at 92 Megahertz and will
have a power of 1 kilowatt to reach both islands which
have a population of 160,000.

Station Manager Arnulfo Angila says the station hopes
to be on the air in February or March with programming
in the local language of Papiamento, and other area
languages such as English, Dutch and Spanish. The
station plans to air programs from the AWR Spanish
Voice of Hope network.

Two new studios in Africa will soon become AWR program
partners to add several more languages to the world-
wide program schedule, according to AWR's region
director for Africa, Samuel Misiani. "I have received
reports from both Lagos and Addis Ababa that the
studios have been constructed and are ready to install
equipment so they can begin program production," says
Misiani.

"AWR has been co-operating with local entities to
establish these two important studios that will be
able to talk to millions of people," said Misiani "and
now we will begin a rigorous training program to help
them prepare for their new roles as the Voice of Hope
in their languages."

"The studio's location in Nigeria at the Adventist
Seminary of West Africa in Lagos State will enable us
to take advantage of the seminary's resources and will
give many young people the opportunity to train in
communication," said Misiani. "We will also be
depending on many young people in the city of Addis to
participate in the new studio there," he added.
