RICHMOND, Va. - Union Theological Seminary & Presbyterian School of
Christian Education has announced that its Enduring Commitment Campaign has
collected a record $34,575,234 since 1995, receiving gifts and pledges from
6,600 people, churches, foundations and estates. The money has made
possible the construction of the new William Smith Morton Library and the
creation of an endowment for library operations. Campaign funds also have
been used to establish 10 merit scholarships, strengthen financial-aid
programs and establish new academic centers to serve the church.

PITTSBURGH - The Fourteenth Conference on Church and Ministry will be held
on April 23 at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (PTS). The Rev. Walter
Brueggeman of Columbia Theological Seminary, an Old Testament scholar, will
deliver three lectures in honor of the ministry of the Rev. Donald E.
Gowan, PTS's Robert Cleveland Holland Professor of Old Testament. The
lectures times are 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and the subjects are,
respectively: "Imagining `Otherwise' Through the Text," "Acting at the
`Right Time'" and "The Stretch Beyond `History.'"

SAN ANSELMO, Calif. - A Jack Rogers Fund for Southern California
Scholarships is being established by the San Francisco Theological Seminary
(SFTS) to mark the retirement of Rogers, a professor of theology and vice
president for Southern California. Rogers joined the SFTS faculty in 1990,
founding and directing the Southern California program. More than 500
people have enrolled in the program since its founding. A celebration of
Rogers' ministry will be held in Claremont on May 3.

AUSTIN, Texas - Larry R. Faulkner, the 27th president of the University of
Texas at Austin, will deliver the fourth annual George S. Heyer Jr. Lecture
at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary on April 7. Faulkner will speak
about "Science, Art and the Conception of God." The event will begin at 4
p.m. in the seminary chapel. The Heyer Lectures were established in 1995 to
foster dialogue between the seminary and the university.

PRINCETON, N.J. - James H. Cone, the Briggs Distinguished professor of
systematic theology, will deliver the inaugural lecture of Princeton
Theological Seminary's Martin Luther King Lectureship at 7:30 p.m. on
Monday, April 5, in Miller Chapel on the seminary campus. Cone's lecture is
titled, "Martin and Malcolm on Nonviolence and Violence." The lectureship
was proposed by the seminary faculty's Black Concerns Council; each annual
lecture will feature a scholar who will examine King and his legacy.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A new program at Louisville Presbyterian Theological
Seminary will train 10 people every two years for certification as teachers
of either preaching or pastoral counseling, so that pastors may impart
their skills to others. The Donald W. Deane Fund for Educating Supervisors
of Ministry will provide full scholarships for six years to finance the
work of 30 students; the remainder will be invested to endow the program.
The program, initiated with a $200,000 gift from Donald W. Deane of
Windermere, Fla., was established to honor the late Seward Hiltner, a
former professor at the University of Chicago Divinity School and Princeton
Seminary. Deane was a student of Hiltner's.
