Seminar will address outreach through contemporary worship

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (MBM) - A seminar that will help worship leaders develop
a
vision for the contemporary worship service and its importance in
outreach
will be offered through the auspices of the Great Lakes Discipleship
Center.

The Great Lakes Discipleship Center provides an initial three months of
training for participants in the newly established RAD (Reaching and
Discipling) program, which offers opportunities for intensive training
and outreach for post-high-school young adults. Located near Fort Wayne,

Ind., the center is sponsored by regional Mennonite congregations,
regional
conferences and Mennonite Board of Missions.

The seminar, titled "Worship Evangelism," will take place April 16-17, at

the Power House, a ministry that provides a safe after-school environment

and support services for at-risk teens. The purpose of the seminar is
"to
glorify God in spirit and truth, responding to God for who God is and
what he has
done for us through Jesus Christ," said Hideat Tewolde, assistant
director
of the Great Lakes Discipleship Center. The seminar is open to all
people who
are involved in leading worship services for their churches.

Sessions on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday will focus on the
following areas:
* Why worship is important
* Definitions:  What is worship?
* How to lead worship
* The body of Christ in worship
* Worship and the world: outreach
A session to evaluate the results of the training will also be included.

Erich Lotz, youth pastor with the Mennonite church in Deutschhof,
Germany,
will lead the seminar. He has served on different YES (Youth Evangelism
and
Service) team assignments with Eastern Mennonite Missions, leading one
team to South Africa and another to Germany. He also has worked as
assistant
director at the Baltimore Discipleship Center for one year. In those
assignments, he has led several seminars on contemporary worship and
evangelism.

"Erich has a passion for worship and has had many opportunities to teach
on
this topic," Tewolde said.

A registration fee of $20 will reserve a place in the training sessions.
 For an
additional $10, the Great Lakes Discipleship Center will provide
dormitory-
style housing (limited to 24 people). Seminar participants also may buy
three meals at the center on Saturday for $15.
