Plans Set For Annual APA Conference

    by Jerry L. Van Marter

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Plans are complete for the 23rd annual national
conference of the Administrative Personnel Association (APA) of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The theme of the conference, to be held here
July 23-25, is the Scripture: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew
their strength" (Isaiah 40:31).

The keynote speaker for the conference is the Rev. Jean Kim of Seattle,
the denomination's associate for homelessness of women, who is also the
founding pastor of the Church of Mary Magdalene, a Seattle congregation of
homeless women.

The goal of the APA is "to improve the quality of professionalism in
the offices that are usually the first points of contact with
congregations, governing bodies and agencies of the PC(USA)," and a number
of conference workshops are aimed at enhancing the skills of those who
serve in administrative positions throughout the church.

Workshops will be offered on such topics as basic Reformed theology,
Presbyterian history since reunion, humor and church administration,
security issues in church offices, financial reporting, spiritual growth,
financial planning for retirement and developing a greater sense of
professionalism.
