WCC's U.S. Office Seeks Young Adult Intern

NEW YORK-The United States Office of the World Council of Churches in New
York is seeking a young adult (under 30) from one of the WCC's member
churches to serve as Young Adult Intern from October 1999 to July 2000.

Applicants should have earned a graduate or seminary degree or have
equivalent work experience, said Jean S. Stromberg, executive director of
the office.

"This internship is a significant project of our office because it
provides a young person with invaluable experience in the ecumenical
movement," Stromberg said. "Even more important, this office and the
ecumenical movement benefit from fresh ideas, insights and enthusiasms."

The U.S. Office has had two Young Adult Interns. The Rev. Garland
Pierce, an African Methodist Episcopal clergyman now studying for his
doctoral degree at Claremont School of Theology in California, held the
position until 1997. Christy Lohr, an Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America laywoman, will conclude her internship in June.

The Young Adult Intern is responsible for promoting and coordinating
ecumenical youth involvement among the WCC's member churches in the United
States; assisting in planning regional and international events related to
the U.S. Office; relating to and facilitating communication between the WCC
Youth Team in Geneva, Switzerland, and the youth and leadership of WCC
member churches in the U.S.; working cooperatively with the Geneva Youth
Team to organize international events involving U.S. young adults;
contributing to an area of personal interest that can be developed through
WCC global ecumenical activities; and supporting the overall work of the
U.S. Office in New York as a member of the staff team.

Applicants should possess high written, oral and electronic
communications skills and show themselves to be mature individuals with a
previously demonstrated interest in ecumenism, Stromberg said. Travel,
often international in scope, is required.

Deadline for applications is May 31. Interested persons should call
800-779-8779 for an application form.

More information is available by contacting Christy Lohr by phone at
212-870-3340 or by e-mail at Lohr24@aol.com
