    by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Creative Ministries Offering Committee of
Presbyterian Women has announced grants totaling more than $1 million from
the 1998 Thank Offering. The announcement was made shortly after the
committee's March 11-15 meeting here.

The grants are made annually to projects that creatively meet crucial
needs, including International Health Ministries projects of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The offering, now in its 11th year, is
received in the fall; grants from it are awarded in the spring.

The total of $1,031,118 was distributed to 53 projects plus nine others
selected by the International Health Ministries office. Forty percent of
the Thank Offering is dedicated to health ministries. In addition to the
nine international health grants, 12 domestic health-related projects were
funded. Overall, 40 of the 62 grants were for domestic projects and 22 were
overseas.

Besides the health ministry projects, grants were given to projects
involving community outreach (4), victims of domestic violence (5), persons
with disabilities (2), empowering women (9), homelessness and hunger (7),
transition from prison (2), the needs of children (8), the needs of older
adults (2) and youth ministries (2).

The members of the Creative Ministries Offering Committee are Diane
Blankenhorn, Madison, Miss. (chair); Louise Davidson, Dublin, Ohio; Grace
M. Randolph, Wheeling, W.V.; Winifred Drape, Manitowoc, Wis.; Liz Anzaldua,
