	INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- An instructor of preaching from Austin, Texas, has 
been called as the next national pastor for Hispanic Ministries in the 
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

	The Rev. Pablo A. Jimenez was unanimously elected to the post by the 
Pastoral Commission for Hispanic Ministries. He begins in January. Jimenez 
currently is an instructor of homiletics at Episcopal Theological Seminary 
of the Southwest in Austin.

	Jimenez succeeds retired National Pastor Lucas Torres, who will continue 
through December providing part-time administrative and pastoral support.

	A native of New York City, raised in Puerto Rico and St. Croix, U.S. 
Virgin Islands, Jimenez was director of the Disciples of Christ Biblical 
Institute and taught at the Evangelical Seminary in Puerto Rico, Northern 
Baptist Theological Seminary, Lombard, Ill., and Austin (Texas) 
Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The longtime educator also was a 
Division of Overseas Ministries appointee to the Latin American Biblical 
Seminary, San Jose, Costa Rica.

	Before joining the faculty at Episcopal Seminary, Jimenez was executive 
director of the Association for Hispanic Theological Education, Atlanta, 
Ga., for five years.

	The new national pastor has a master of divinity degree from the 
Evangelical Seminary in Puerto Rico, a master of sacred theology from 
Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, and a doctor of ministry 
from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Ga. He currently is 
completing coursework for a doctor of philosophy from the Evangelical 
Institute of Graduate Theological Studies in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

	Jimenez and his spouse, Glorimar, have one child. He also has a son who 
lives in Puerto Rico.
