PC(USA) Treasury Official Bob McKee Dies

    by Jerry Van Marter

Robert D. McKee, an Iowa banker who served in many important posts in
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died May 18 in Waverly, Iowa, after a
yearlong bout with cancer. He was 72.

McKee was most recently deputy executive director for Mission Support
Services in Louisville, a post he assumed when former MSS head G.A. (Pat)
Goff resigned at the end of 1996. But McKee's work in the financial
affairs of the denomination stretches back at least to the mid-70s.

When the former United Presbyterian Church in the United States of
America restructured in 1974, McKee was elected to the Support Agency and
served on the Church Loan Committee until post-reunion re-structuring in
1988. At that time he became a member of the newly-created Mission
Development Resources Committee, a position he held until agreeing to serve
for three months in the fall of 1996 as interim associate director for
evangelism and church development in the National Ministries Division.

McKee was seemingly born to be a banker. Born in Chicago on Sept.
18,1926, he graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Economics
in 1949 after having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His
career in banking spanned 50 years. At the time of his death he was the
president of one bank and the director of a bank holding company, both in
Iowa.

McKee is survived by his former wife, Ramona; three sons - Murray,
Scott and Stuart; and grandchildren. Services were scheduled for May 21 at
Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.
