"Stop-In" TV Production Studio
Will Be Available During General Assembly
by Mary Julia Pace
An on-site television studio at the site of the General Assembly in
Fort Worth next month will give congregations and presbyteries access to
all the media resources of the denomination's "Stop In and Find Out"
campaign.
The campaign features TV spots and print and radio ads that churches
can use to reach out to the unchurched. Participants also get professional
marketing advice.
During Lent, 10 congregations in the Presbytery of Sheppards and
Lapsley in central Alabama used the program to good effect. They pooled
resources and consulted a media buyer, then placed ads in daily papers and
on cable-TV systems serving their geographical area.
Rev. Sid Burgess, the pastor of Edgewood Presbyterian Church in
Homewood, Ala., a member of the presbytery's development division,
endorsed the two key messages of the campaign - that Presbyterians invite
questions of faith and believe in racial and ethnic diversity. He called
the campaign a thoughtful and well-produced "gift to the greater
(Presbyterian) community" that churches could use in a number of ways.
Each TV advertisement ended with a tag line giving a phone number to
call for directions to the nearest Stop In and Find Out church. Newspaper
ads carried the presbytery's phone number and Web site address. Inquirers
who reached the presbytery office or Web page received a list of the
participating churches and a map identifying their locations.
During the General Assembly, any church can customize 30-second TV spot
in a convention-center studio or choose a ready-to-use ad. The Evangelism
and Church Development office and the Office of Communication are providing
the on-site studio services for the second year at a fraction of the cost
normally paid for such production work.
Single elements such as radio spots or print ads, and the entire "Stop
In and Find Out" kit, are available for purchase through the Presbyterian
Distribution Center by calling 1-800-524-2616; via the Order Resources
Online page at pcusa.org on the Internet, or by placing an order in the GA
exhibit area.
For details, call (502) 569-5235 or visit the "Stop In and Find Out"
Web page at www.horeb.pcusa.org/sifo. To reserve studio time at the GA or
to order a television spot, call Becky Trinkle at (502) 569-5210.
