Presbyterian Youth Advisory Delegates Dedicate Tree

FORT WORTH - On Saturday afternoon, some 150+ Presbyterian Youth Advisory
Delegates assembled on the lawn of the Gethsemane Presbyterian Church to
dedicate a Crepe Myrtle tree to honor the graciousness of God in the
created universe, and as a symbol of replenishment for the paper used by
the General Assembly.
The service began with a prayer led by Britton Travis of Palo Duro
Presbytery. Forrest Kirkpatrick of Holston Presbytery read a passage from
Isaiah 55. A plaque commemorating the event was presented by the youth to
the pastor, the Rev. Ben Gutierrez. Gutierrez expressed appreciation for
the plaque and the service of the youth advisory delegates, on behalf of
the congregation.
The Gethsemane Presbyterian Church which was organized on December 31,
1927 is a multilingual, multi cultural, and multiracial congregation. The
congregation prides itself in being a seed-bed for training church leaders
who are presently serving in both Anglo and other Spanish-speaking
congregations.
Following the dedication of the tree, a concert was presented by the
40 voice choir from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary of Mexico. The
music was traditional Hispanic music of praise. The youth advisory
delegates who gathered from every presbytery in the United States and were
joined by seminary students from Mexico, made this a celebration of cosmic
praise for the Hispanic legacy of the Fort Worth/Dallas area.
