    PresbyNet Institutes Membership Fee

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-PresbyNet, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) computer 
communication network, will begin charging an annual membership fee of 
$17.95 this summer, according to the Rev. Merrill Cook, the system 
administrator. 
 
    "As we approach the new millennium, PresbyNet is on the upgrade and 
Internet access is about to get noticeably faster and better," Cook told 
the Presbyterian News Service.  "Alas, however, not cheaper." 
 
    The membership fee is required to pay for the upgrading of the nearly 
20-year-old system, Cook said. 
 
    There is good news for current PresbyNet users, though,  he quickly 
added.  Those who use PresbyNet before the upgrade will receive their first 
year's membership free.
