            John Anderson Addresses Retired Ministers,
                 Spouses, and Survivors Luncheon

Forth Worth-On Tuesday, the Association of Retired Ministers their Spouses
and Survivors held their second annual General Assembly Luncheon. The
president, William M. Clark, introduced the speaker of the day, the Rev.
John F. Anderson, moderator of the 1982 General Assembly.
Former Moderator Anderson spoke to the group about the value of
retired ministers in any community. He identified the various calls, i.e.
the call of God, the call of denomination, and the call of the
congregation, and related them to the call to retirement and its meaning.
In his conclusion, Anderson proclaimed, "Look out instead of in and look
up instead of down. Because when you look up instead of down you are in
the Spirit."
The former moderator closed with the reminder from the first question
of the Shorter Catechism: "What is the chief end of man?" In retirement,
each should "glorify God and enjoy him forever." When one follows that
dictum, assures Anderson, "You will hear the still small voice proclaiming
"You are a servant and a disciple for the present."
The purpose of the organization is through music, major presentations,
discussion groups, fun and fellowship, to seek to meet the needs of the
honorably retired ministers, their spouses, and their surviving spouses.
The association plans to meet again on June 1-4, 2,000, at the Galt House
in Louisville, Ky. Its theme for that meeting will be "Celebrating
Presbyterianism During the Past Century."
