WASHINGTON (UMNS) - A Labor Day message, approved by the United Methodist
Council of Bishops at its spring meeting, is available for churches to use
for observances related to the Sept. 6 holiday weekend.

The message includes statements from the global consultation, "The United
Methodist Church and Working People: Joining the Struggle for Workplace
Peace and Justice," held in Atlanta last year. A Labor Day Litany is also
available.

A letter encouraging the use of both resources - and reminding recipients of
the church's historic stand with working people - was sent to all U.S.
bishops, district superintendents, annual conference church and society
leaders and members of the Labor Rights Network. The document, including the
message and litany, was signed by Bishop Robert C. Morgan, Louisville, Ky.,
president of the Council of Bishops, and Bishop Fritz Mutti, Topeka, Kan.,
chairman of the denomination's Concern for Workers Task Force.

The message and the litany are on the Board of Church and Society's Web
site: http://www.umc-gbcs.org/worker.htm . For a printed copy, contact
Mark Harrison at (202) 488-5645 or mharrison@umc-gbcs.org.
